Electricity
Since 2000, EU member states have gradually opened up their electricity markets to competition. Total market opening took place in Ireland in 2005. The electricity market is also fully open for green and CHP suppliers.
Kerry Deepwater Zone is adjacent to the 220 kV national high tension grid. EirGrid is Ireland’s independent Transmission System Operator which facilitates the connection of generation and large scale demand customers to the transmission system.
500 MW Ireland-Wales Interconnector
Planning permission was granted in 2009 and detailed route design is well under way for the new interconnector between Ireland and Wales. € 300 million (50%) of the funding for the project has been arranged with the European Investment Bank.

Roads
Kerry Deepwater Zone is serviced by the Coast Road which meets the N69 at Tarbert. In conjunction with the Shannon LNG project the Coast Road will be significantly upgraded.
